Facing declining membership or even natural disasters, a small but growing number of U.S. synagogues are overcoming ritual and theological differences to collaborate -- and occasionally merge -- with shuls of other denominations. Ben Gittleson reports for JTA.

Tami Cutler was just 8 1/2 years old when she and her family first attended Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center. As immigrants from Israel, they discovered a strong faith community and "a real center" where they and other families gathered frequently for worship as well as fellowship.
